If this pattern looks familiar to you, you’re right! I designed this pattern over a year ago for the first 30 Days of Cozy Pattern Bundle and it’s been living over on the Crochetprenuer blog ever since. Well, I’m finally getting it up here and it feels so good!

This pillow is one of my all time favorite designs. I love the colors, I love the trees, and I love that it looks so much like knit, but is actually crochet. Curious about how I got it to look like knit? It’s actually pretty simple. It’s The Waistcoat Stitch!

The Waistcoat stitch is a variation of the classic single crochet and it gives it such a unique look. If you’ve never tried this stitch before, don’t worry, you can find a video and photo tutorial here.

I also used a crochet technique called Fair Isle Crochet to do all the color changing. The best part about Fair Isle is that you can carry the yarns with you as you go which means less ends to weave in! Who doesn’t love that? Find a video and photo tutorial at the link above.

Once you’ve learned the basics of how to Fair Isle Crochet using Waistcoat Stitch, you’ll be on your way to making your own Nordic Tree Pillow in no time. Here’s what you’ll need:

Materials:

1,113 yards of worsted weight yarn in Color A (I used 3 skeins of Big Twist Value yarn in white)
180 yards of worsted weight yarn in Color B (I used 1 skein of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in black)
Crochet hook size G (4.25mm)
Tapestry needle
Tape measure
Stitch marker
22” X 22” pillow form
Nordic Tree Pillow Graph

Abbreviations:

Ch-chain

Notes:

1.Pillow is worked in a continuous round. Do not join at the end of rounds.

2.The entire pillow is made using center single crochet stitches.

3.Color work is done using the fair isle crochet technique.

4.A graph is provided as well as a written pattern. Graph is read right to left for each round.

5.Float the secondary color as you go making sure to catch the yarn every 5-6 stitches.

6.Finished pillow before adding insert measures 22” wide by 21” tall.

Fold piece in half and using the long tail sew the top closed with a whip stitch.
